Fruit Wines & Ciders

Morris County NJ's first farm winery

Winery FAQ

When did you open?

We opened our winery and tasting room on June 1, 2024.

Who is Rebel Sheep Wine Co.?

Rebel Sheep Wine Co. (RSWC) is an extension of Stony Hill Farms. The farm needed a new avenue to help mitigate the loss of excess fruit and produce. We decided, why not ferment the surplus and make wine and hard cider? All the fruit that returns unsold from farmers’ markets, bruised, or in excess from bumper crop yields, is cleaned and frozen for processing into alcohol when we have the time or enough product to do so.

Where is Rebel Sheep Wine Co.?

The winery is located at Stony Hill Farms at 15 North Road in Chester NJ. All the production of wine and hard cider is made in-house on the farm. This means fruit harvesting, cleaning, processing, fermenting, filtering, bottling, and selling occurs at Stony Hill by the very people that grow the fruit and work on the farm.

What’s behind the name?

Rebel Sheep Wine Co. is led by rebels of the wine industry; we do not make classic, traditional wine and have no intentions of doing so. All our wine is made from our own fruit and there are no traditional wine grapes to be found. We also do not take ourselves seriously and are creating a niche within the industry that allows guests to experience a different type of wine on their own terms.

Where are your vineyards?

They don’t exist! RSWC is an extension of Stony Hill Farms, which grows over 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables on over 500 acres of land. We utilize this land, spread between Long Valley and Chester, to provide the winery with the fruits and vegetables needed to make our wines and hard ciders. Besides our table grapes grown at our Greenhouse location, there are no vineyards to be found.

Do I need my ID to enter?

Yes, your state or government issued ID must be on you for identification before purchasing alcohol from RSWC. We may ask for your ID at any time before entering or purchasing alcohol from us.

Can I bring my own snacks and food?

Yes, we allow guests to bring their own food on a limited basis. During the year (excluding the weekends during the months of September and October) we don’t mind you bringing your own food. Any food brought into the tasting room or outside patio must fit at the table you are sitting at, as we do not allow “food only” tables or tables used as buffet stations due to limited available seating for all guests. We offer charcuterie boards, chips and salsa, and other snacking appetizers in the tasting room. Visit rebelsheepwineco.com for a detailed list of our current menu or ask one of our staff members. During our busy months of September and October, we encourage you to support our own food amenities on the weekends and do not allow outside food within the winery. Our own food truck will be open, offering a much larger selection of options. Check us out on our website at stonyhillfarms.com closer to our Corn Maze season to see what’s on the menu!

Can I bring my own alcohol?

No. All outside alcohol is prohibited at RSWC and Stony Hill Farms. All RSWC alcohol must be consumed at RSWC within the permitted areas (marked with signs and fencing).

Can I bring my dog?

Yes! We love all human-friendly and dog-friendly dogs. Please make sure to always keep your buddy on a leash and clean up after any potty breaks.

Are children allowed?

Yes! Bring the whole gang. We have play areas on the farm suitable for kids and within eyesight of the tasting room. Kids are also allowed to hang out in the tasting room with you as you enjoy your wine or hard cider. We ask that they be respectful of other guests in the tasting room and on the patio.

Are your wines and ciders gluten free?

Yes! All our wines and hard ciders are gluten free.

Do we need to bring our own tables and chairs?

No. Our current license with the state permits the drinking of alcohol only within our tasting room and within the fenced in patio area. We do not allow alcoholic drinks to be brought anywhere else on the farm, i.e., corn maze, lavender field, sunflower field, hayrides, farm market, etc. This is non-negotiable.

Can I walk around the farm and drink alcohol?

Do I need a reservation to experience a wine/cider tasting?

No reservations are needed for tastings. All walk-ins are welcome, and seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Can I buy a bottle to enjoy in the tasting room?

Yes – bottles can be purchased to consume on site in the tasting room or adjacent enclosed patio. If you do not finish your bottle before leaving, we can recap and place it in a sealed bag/box for you to bring home and enjoy.

Can I purchase a bottle without doing a tasting?

Do I need to refrigerate the wine or hard cider?
